WCCCA often fields requests from individuals and families in need of assistance filling out and submitting applications for Social Security benefits, health insurance or employment.  We work in collaboration with both government agencies and other community organizations to ensure the welfare of those in need.  In recent years, WCCCA has been selected by the Charles County Commissioners as one of several local organizations selected to participate in the Vision 20-20 program, an initiative designed to help qualifying low-income families to improve their economic circumstances.  The program is designed to lift families out of poverty – for good--through a series of safety-net measures.
Food/Clothing Program
WCCCA helps to feed and clothe those in need.  We distribute food and food vouchers, and gently used clothing, throughout the year, food baskets during the holidays.  In the winter, our members make every effort to see that no one goes without during the cold seasons. Our volunteers collect and distribute food baskets during the holidays and gently used coats and clothing all year long.  In the winter, our members make every effort to see that no one goes without during the cold seasons.
Summer Youth Program
One of WCCCA’s most important and gratifying activities is its fund-raising campaign to provide low- income children in Western Charles County with the opportunity to enjoy a week-long summer camp.   Children selected to attend the camp receive all the clothing and equipment they will need for the extended stay at a local recreational facility. The cost of sending one child to camp is $350, which covers personal items and incidentals such as towel, toiletries, swim wear and/ or shoes.  WCCCA funds this program through the generosity of civic-minded donors willing to underwrite the cost of sending a needy child to camp.  Please get in touch with us if you would like to “adopt” a child and pay the cost of making summer camp a cherished memory.
